Nissan continues to demonstrate commitment to bringing important technologies to all by now offering its clever, yet simple, Rear Door Alert (RDA)1 technology on 12 models. This is tech that potentially can help reduce risks posed by dangerous interior car temperatures. For model year 2020, RDA is standard on the Nissan Altima, Armada, Kicks (SV and SR), LEAF, Murano, Maxima, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, TITAN (King Cab and Crew Cab) and Versa (SV and SR). Introduced with the 2018 Pathfinder SUV, Nissan's RDA technology was developed by a pair of Nissan engineers, who are also mothers, inspired by Nissan's "culture of innovation." RDA was the industry's first system to use the horn, in addition to door sensors and a message display on the center instrument panel, to remind drivers to check the back seat after the vehicle is parked. Nissan remains committed to bringing its RDA technology to all four-door trucks, sedans and SUVs by 2022. more Last year, Nissan joined other vehicle manufacturers in a pledge to have a rear seat reminder feature in essentially all cars and trucks by model year 2025 or sooner. Under this commitment, automakers will introduce a wide range of approaches to help parents and caregivers remember to check the back seat as they leave a vehicle. How RDA works Once activated, the system monitors when a rear door is opened and closed before and after the vehicle is in motion. If a rear door was used before a trip but was not opened after the vehicle is parked, the system reminds the driver to check the rear seat. Once the vehicle is in park, the system will first display a notification in the instrument panel. If the driver exits the vehicle and does not open a rear door, the system progresses to distinctive chirps of the horn. The RDA system is easy to configure and can be temporarily, or permanently, turned on through a menu in the cluster display or through a separate RDA switch, depending on the model. As the world adapts its summer travel plans, many Americans are turning to recreational vehicles and boats as new ways to get out while maintaining safe distances. In fact, 71 percent of Americans are more comfortable traveling by car than by air, according to a recent omnibus survey conducted by Nissan1. This percentage climbs to 85 percent for those age 65 and older. Nearly half the survey respondents are also now more likely to take a vacation with a recreational vehicle, and one-third are now more likely to spend money on an RV or boat. "As we emerge as a nation from the stay at home orders, it is clear that Americans want to get back outdoors," said Craig Kirby, RV Industry Association president. "We are seeing more and more people turn to RVs as a way to continue to enjoy their summer vacations, while also adhering to social distancing, which will likely be around in some form for the foreseeable future." more With increased interest in camping and boating this summer, 28 percent of Americans have intentions to buy or rent a vehicle capable of towing within the next three months. However, two-thirds of respondents have no experience towing and nearly three out of four have some level of concern with towing. In addition, ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link is standard on Rogue Platinum and available on Rogue SL bringing several new features. By linking ProPILOT Assist with Nissan's Door-to-Door Navigation System, the navigation map data can now provide the ability to proactively reduce speed for upcoming freeway curves or junctions and also help the driver slow for freeway exits. Additionally, the hold time in stop-and-go highway traffic changes from the previous three seconds to up to 30 seconds (for vehicles with ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link only) – allowing the vehicle to remain stopped and automatically continue without the driver resetting the function or tapping the accelerator pedal. Finally, using traffic sign recognition, the system can also automatically update the vehicle's speed when the speed limit goes up or down. Design with commanding presence The design of the 2021 Rogue, both exterior and interior, reflects the spirit of the vehicle – versatile, fun, edgy, and adventurous and always rogue. The adventure-ready exterior combines athletic strength with a premium appearance. The 2021 Rogue adopts signature Nissan design elements such as the floating roof and an evolved V-motion grille and adds exciting new features such as the unique headlight shape and "U-shape" bodyside highlights. New multi-level LED headlights with an expanded illumination area are standard on all 2021 Rogue grade levels and accent the powerful front grille design. LED fog lights are standard on SL and Platinum grades. The body itself measures 1.5 inches shorter and 0.2 inches lower than the previous generation Rogue, adding to the look of strength while also enhancing driving maneuverability. Key aerodynamic features include "3D" tire deflectors in the lower front fascia, an active grille shutter to control air flow into the engine compartment, special A-pillar shaping, underbody covers to manage air flow under the vehicle and a unique "air curtain" that precisely directs air flow from the front to the sides of the Rogue. The chassis control module monitors and adjusts engine, transmission, Vehicle Dynamic Control, all-wheel drive and steering functions. For front-wheel drive modes, a switch on the console controls three drive modes: Sport, Standard and Eco. Five drive modes are available with Rogue All-Wheel Drive models – Off-road, Snow, Standard, Eco and Sport – engaged by the driver through a drive-mode selector mounted on the center console. While engaged at all times, the Vehicle Motion Control system is particularly advantageous when driving on snowy slopes, deep snow, snow flat turning and off-road driving (such as beach or dirt trails). The enhanced Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system uses a new electro-hydraulic controlled clutch as well, which can control torque more accurately and quickly by predicting front wheel slippage, making torque distribution to the rear more responsive. The new suspension design features a rigid mount (six mounting points) and a new multi-link rear. Braking is provided by standard 4-wheel disc brakes with Anti-lock Braking System. An expanded model lineup As in previous generations, Rogue will be offered in well-equipped S, SV and SL grade levels. The challenge was to ensure impressive EV performance while also providing a smooth ride quality for all occupants under multiple driving scenarios. Regenerative braking is one of the hallmarks of an EV. The technology allows for energy to be recaptured when the car slows, then sending that electricity back to the battery.
