Nissan Bringing Telepathic Driving to Fruition

Right now, the best way to drive models like the Nissan Altima, Nissan Rogue, and Nissan Quest is to grip the wheel and control the pedals. Nissan, however, is preparing to implement a new way to control the models in their lineup, and it seems like something straight out of a science fiction story.
More specifically, the Japanese automaker is now teaming with ?cole Polytechnique F?d?rale de Lausanne (EPFL) to develop a way to make "Brain Machine Interface" (BMI) systems work with automobiles. This incredible new technology allows people to maneuver wheelchairs by thought transference. We told you, it really does sound like something out of a sci-fi movie. The ultimate goal in doing this is to allow disabled drivers to get back behind the wheel of a car, though there are also practical applications for non-disabled drivers as well.
"The Nissan and EPFL collaboration is developing systems that go to the next stage using statistical analysis to predict a diver's intentions and to evaluate a driver's cognitive state relevant to the driving environment," according to Motor Authority.1
If vehicle's were able to accurately predict and execute a drivers next move, countless accidents could be avoided. Furthermore, this system would allow to for accurate maneuvering in general. Whether you consider it sci-fi in nature or not, the ambitions of this project are quite admirable.
